PZU's transformation: from bureaucracy to agility
Baloise was facing a critical turning point. Following the acquisition of several insurance companies, Baloise was operating on complex, outdated mainframe systems that were difficult to change. At the same time, its combined ratio had risen above 120%, putting pressure on profitability.
To turn things around, Baloise cleaned up its portfolio, integrated teams across three cities – Bad Homburg, Bremen, and Hamburg – and launched an ambitious transformation programme, reshaping its operations and laying the foundation for future growth.
At the heart of this transformation was the need for a modern, agile core system. Baloise embarked on a major IT overhaul, replacing its legacy systems across multiple lines of business, including motor, liability and SME. The first milestone was reached in 2021 with the successful go-live of Private Motor. This enabled Baloise to respond more quickly to market changes, seamlessly integrate service partners via APIs, and streamline business processes.
By combining strategic repositioning with technological innovation, Baloise not only modernised its IT landscape, but also strengthened its ability to compete and succeed in a rapidly evolving insurance market.
Sollers played a key role in this journey, contributing to the digital revolution, implementing new core system (including German country layer), bringing Agile methodology, supporting data migration and ensuring a smooth transition to the new platform. We are proud to continue contributing to the transformation of Baloise.
